Run by Alive Hospice, this is a free overnight grief camp for children ages 8 through 17 who have experienced the death of someone significant in their lives. It combines typical overnight camp activities with therapeutic sessions led by licensed grief counselors — a balance that helps kids process loss in a setting that feels more like camp than a clinical program. The camp takes place at YMCA Camp Widjiwagan on Smith Springs Road, which is a proper residential camp facility on the southeast side of Nashville. In 2026, there's one session running August 14–16 — just a weekend, which keeps the time commitment light while still offering the benefits of an overnight group experience. Because it's completely free, cost isn't a factor here. If your child is working through grief and you think a peer support environment might help, this is one of the few programs in the area designed specifically for that. There isn't really a comparable local alternative, which makes it worth knowing about.
